Hayes Park School

Equalities

At Hayes Park School, we are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers irrespective of whether they have a protected characteristic of not.

We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and are able to participate fully in school life. We aim to provide all our pupils with the opportunity to succeed, and to reach the highest level of personal achievement.

The Equality Act 2010 requires the school to publish information that demonstrates that we have due regard for the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

What is the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)?

The Equality Act 2010 introduced a single, general duty for public bodies, including schools, and which extends to all ‘protected characteristics. These are; age, disability, gender, race, religion, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, sex and sexual orientation.

Hayes Park School takes due care in meeting statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010.

As a public organisation, we are required to:

  • Publish information to demonstrate how we are complying with the Public Sector Equality Duty
  • Prepare and publish equality objectives which are specific and measurable
  • Update published information annually and to publish objectives at least once every four years
